What I Ate: Some Celebrations

This is a What I Ate based on a few weeks of eats. Again, I didn’t do my planned weekly What I Ates because I kinda feel stuff is so boring for the blog, or the better stuff was eaten for dinner when there’s no good lighting at this time of year (and the photos I do take of dinner look hideous). And there’s only so many green smoothies I can show you!

We’ve had a few birthday and anniversary type celebrations, one involving stopping in at Mister Nice Guy’s Bake Shop (all vegan and one of my favourite places) for some treats: lemon bun, cinnamon bun, chocolate babka and a cinnamon donut:


Also from Mister Nice Guy’s is this curried egg salad in a brioche bun. The bun was excellent:


A birthday brunch at The Glass Den in Coburg to try the new tiramisu hotcakes from the recently introduced winter menu, pictured at the top up there. Loved these!

My favourite simple meal is sweet potato, broccoli and tofu. Here, I pressed the tofu in to sesame seeds and baked it. Then promptly dropped the tray so that the sesame seeds all fell off:

Cleaning out our upright freezer, I was happy to find some of the Pumpkin and Kale Soup I’d made from the Green Gourmet Giraffe blog. Guess I better clean my windows too:

We tried the Gardein Beefless Burgers. These are pretty meat-like and had that kind of flame grilled smoky flavour:

  1. nice! Those baked goods look absolutely marvelous. wowzers. I wish I could find vegan baked treats like that near my house! I’ve been meaning to try the Gardein burgers but I keep forgetting to look for them at the store. I did recently buy some of their meatballs, which I haven’t tried yet. I think we’re going to make meatball subs this week!

Those tiramisu hotcakes look so pretty and the mister nice guy bakes look really good – how did the egg filling in the bun taste – I am never sure about egg filling in vegan sandwiches – love making vegan “eggy”dishes at home but still worry they will taste too much like egg if I try them when out. Your burger looks beautiful and the seeded tofu looks yummy.

    • It’s funny because I never liked egg salady things but this is fine as I assume it’s just all tofu πŸ™‚ I was surprised at how huge the bun was though and I could only eat half to begin with.

    • ha! Actually I forgot to mention I rarely put my smoothies in a glass and photos of the blender jug look gross

    • it’s a really good bakery, they have these peanut butter brioche donut ‘bronuts’ which are the best!

  3. I want to go to Mr Nice Guys so badly, but it is always a bit far away for when I am visiting.
    I am still kicking myself that I didn’t buy anything from them at the vegan day I went to a couple of days ago. WHY?

    • ohhhh you haven’t tried Mr Nice Guys?! Ya gotta get your Melbourne buddies to get stuff for you in readiness for your next arrival!
